According to western analyst forecasts, the application of automation and artificial intelligence technologies in critical business processes since the beginning of 2019 may increase more than three times, reflecting growing confidence in such technologies.
In December, ISG surveyed more than 500 global business leaders about their current and future plans for innovative deployment. So, to date, only about 20% of respondents reported that they are already using automation and AI technologies, but more than 50% assert that they will in any case use one or more of the intellectual technologies in 2019 year.
The survey also showed that total investment in automation and AI technology, including RPA, virtual customer service and personal assistant agents, natural language processing and machine learning, will double in the next two years, as companies seek to optimize and be flexible in decision making.
To better understand how these processes directly affect the workforce, experts analyzed the trends in the interaction of human resources and machines by interviewing several hundred companies already using AI. Among them are respondents from small companies (1-5 thousand employees), medium sized companies (10-25 thousand employees) and large companies (over 25 thousand employees) in the US and Europe from various industries (including banking, insurance , manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, retail, science, hotel business, transport and business services).
As a result of the study, it became clear that most employees did not consider AI a threat to their workplace. Meanwhile, two-thirds of company executives said their initiatives on AI implementation were primarily aimed at automating certain tasks within a particular business process, and therefore did not require mass layoffs or retraining of employees. Almost three-quarters of the surveyed executives said that automation and AI were dismissing their employees to work on more important strategic initiatives, which, on the contrary, affected the company's productivity growth.
8 predictions and trends in the application of artificial intelligence technologies in 2019 year
- AI promotes digital conversion
Indeed, many experts agree that the most global trend in the field of artificial intelligence will be its growing ability to accelerate the digital transformation of all possible spheres and areas of activity. AI-based analytical business models will become more intelligent and fast, and can handle as wide a range of tasks as possible. Against this background, the expected progress will be a huge leap of competitiveness as among those who are already implementing AI in their business processes, and among those who are only planning to innovate. The analytical agency RELX Group also predicts that the introduction of AI and machine learning will be crucial for both government and private organizations, since both parties will be forced to divide the services markets and remain competitive as the era of digital transformation develops.
- AI will acquire new skills
Today it is assumed that the skills of artificial intelligence are at the embryonic level of development. But this does not make AI less popular in various industries, which encourages developers to enhance their capabilities and build on existing capabilities. Most organizations today want to use AI to strengthen their position in the market and improve the internal management system. But so far there is still a problem with the lack of experts who would be able to adapt the universal intelligent systems to the narrow-minded needs of enterprises. All because many are betting on the development of artificial intelligence tools that do not require extensive technical knowledge for deployment and management. However, the full potential coverage of an AI in an enterprise will definitely require new skills that a person will have to possess before he gives them a car or system. It is anticipated that in order to solve a multitude of business tasks of enterprises and developers themselves, they will become more agile and will spend more time investing and creating tools that are necessary for the implementation of internal local processes in the company. And, consequently, AI, which will perform such functions, will acquire new progressive skills.
- AI will attract even more investment within the states
Experts believe that, given the rapid development of new effective approaches to the use of AI not only in business but also in public administration, in the 2019 year, investment in intelligent technologies directly within countries will exceed all expectations of developers. The feasibility of innovations is highly valued not only by the private sector, but also by the state. Therefore, many countries today have announced that they are going to invest in the development of the necessary technologies to strengthen their potential. China, the United States and the European Union, in particular, have strategic plans for financing start-ups and new developments, forming investment packages to strengthen the technology sector. At the same time, according to experts, the market of innovations will sooner or later begin to develop rapidly in economically backward countries, where so far seriously concerns the advanced technologies of business, but not representatives of state administration.
- AI will shape new ways to interact within companies
AI and its related technologies will indeed have a significant impact on a wide range of jobs in the future. But even in the case of their reduction - will stimulate the emergence of an even greater number of new ones. It is anticipated that this will happen, not even because there is no need for many static functions of human personnel. And because the AI will change or increase existing roles and distribution in different divisions of companies. In 2019, implementation of artificial intelligence solutions is expected to allow teams to expand, significantly increase their skills, potential and productivity. Already today, experienced IT executives implement AI not to replace people - they hope that AI will help them solve critical tasks at a time when they lack the qualified professionals. The aforementioned RELX Group survey confirms this vision of artificial intelligence - as an auxiliary vehicle, not a "monster" that altogether deprives people of work. According to the survey results, today, the companies designate three of the most sought after directions for the use of AI and machine learning: improving efficiency or productivity (51%), analyzing and forecasting business decisions (41%), and optimizing business processes (39%).
- AI will assume responsibility for the security of the data
Too many organizations still use outdated tools and processes to combat cyber security threats. This problem is compounded by the lack of information, employee skills and inflexibility of existing applications on the market. But the market is changing. In 2019, AI and machine learning can be the only solution to this problem, experts say. The fact is that the basis of providing information security lies in solving the problem of processing large data. The use of AI in this area is extremely effective. As cyber-attackers continue to improve their methods, and as the gap between the number of trained cyber security professionals and the demand for their skills continues to increase, AI and automation are of paramount importance for protecting enterprises in 2019 year. It is mathematically difficult for people not only to track the threats of cybersecurity, but also to resist them. That is why the future of cybersecurity will be automated. Even the largest security team, made up of highly skilled IT professionals, can not effectively achieve the desired result without the help of artificial intelligence.
- The AI will become more open and accessible
Many of the cloud-based technologies used today are born of open source projects. It is expected that the development of AI, machine learning and related technologies will follow the same path. Today, the open source code encourages the emergence of even more successful development in this area. They are more understandable, interpreted and effective. The open and accessible AI brings together many employees and organizations. Therefore, many technology pioneers are likely to open their data to companies and community groups already in 2019 year to scale up intelligent systems. This will allow organizations of different levels to successfully co-ordinate a number of critical projects that together create an open-source, AI-based approach, machine learning and in-depth learning.
- AI will be able to process and analyze even more data
The number of data processing and analyzing artificial intelligence systems grows geometrically from year to year. Accordingly, the requirements for them - too. Companies will increasingly rely on an AI solution to help themselves manage and analyze data in the future. And already in the 2019 year, more and more companies are expected to invest in expanding AI capabilities that will scale up with a large amount of data. The most expected trend in corporate artificial intelligence in 2019 year is machine learning, which will eventually go beyond the current standard functions (marking images, translating text information, speech recognition, and voice) and will be able to more complexly process and analyze information coming in in the form of a huge amount of data. It is also expected that new applications on the market will make the process of their storage and scaling as fast and safe as possible, and predictions based on these data are more accurate. "One-time" analyzes and point niche solutions are likely to remain in the past, as more and more organizations using analytic systems are seeking a more global, but with a clear simulation of business situations. In addition, 2019 year should become the starting point in terms of creating qualitatively new ways of human interaction and AI, when it comes essentially to a full-fledged cooperation. Finally, the key trend in the 2019 of the year can be to enhance the role of corporate data management in the organization with the help of AI itself, since it is able to provide reliable processing and storage of data with the correct approach to developing algorithms.
- AI will become more hidden within the framework of external business processes due to high competition
From the point of view of the quality of customer service, both internal and external users, many of the major technological changes of the past decades have been easily visible and noticeable. People are well aware of the need and capabilities of modern applications and successfully use them. This is the logical result of technological progress, but it leaves some negative imprint on the activities of many companies when it comes to competition in the market. It is anticipated that many organizations in 2019 year will not want to focus on which systems, applications and technologies are used to achieve the desired results in order to maintain its uniqueness and competitiveness. Thus, some of the best intelligent solutions can be veiled from the public, which will create an illusory effect of "inhibition" in development. However, this is only related to business security measures. The fact that we most likely will not be watching in real time, as AI changes the entire industry and transforms markets or business models does not mean that it is not. It is already everywhere - embedded in all possible applications, and therefore users are not always aware that they are involved in innovation.
